The ‘cameras’ look real enough from afar; if I didn’t know they were fakes, I’d assume I was being recorded or watched.
The blinking red light adds an element of authenticity in my opinion, though others may disagree. The camera angle is easily adjustable.
The hood that covers the camera and slides back and forth is pretty flimsy and has some writing on it (which you can see in the product photos above) that I think is unnecessary and makes the camera look like a toy. It has me thinking about removing the hood altogether.

It’s a shame that I need to worry about the safety of my family, but it is an unfortunate fact of life. I would love to have a full blown surveillance system, but that’s not financially feasible for us. So, with that in mind we tried the dummy security camera. I can’t say whether it will actually be a deterrent, but I can say that I like the idea. No massive costs and a little peace of mind. This dummy cam comes with sticker window signage and will need batteries for the flashing light to operate. Ours has been “operational” for a week and the batteries/light are still good to go. I actually removed the batteries because real cameras glow red at night instead of blink. Better to have them just not blink. The camera has adjustable angles and pivots for different placement options. It also has a sliding hood that would go over where the lens would be. Also included is a dummy cord, but I’m not sure how convincing it is as it’s basically a small black tube not more than a foot in length. I actually installed these on the interior of the house where the window is pointing towards the outside. They are mounted on the wall, on the sides of the window sills. Too hard without a drill to install on siding.
7/23/15 Update: one camera was defective as it would not screw together but amazon made it right thanks!

Nothing fancy. But good for a deterrent. I had to replace black plastic hose that is supposed to look like camera wire. I replaced it with twisted pair wire and it looks much more authentic.

I think they appear convincing.
Had an issue but the company made it right: The lights don’t work in any of them because the battery receptacles were installed wrong (backwards: one battery has 2 positive and the other has 2 negative so there is no connection) Tried turning the metal connectors over but it falls out, nothing to hold it in. Issue resolved.

If you don’t know what a raspberry pi is, this review is NOT for you. I don NOT use this product in a manner it is intended to be used. For starters, I am using these dummy cases with a raspberry pi 3 B, and a pi noir camera, plus ir illuminators paired with the cameras. I currently have 6 installed in this config, which are providing a RTSP stream to a centralized zoneminder server. This central zoneminder server is also acting as a server to another 6 cheap DLink webcams. The pi+ir illuminators work in most light (assuming the illuminator is strong enough/not drowned out by other lighting), where the DLinks are dead in low/no light.
To make things fit, I unscrew everything, and remove the panel with the blinking led and the fake ir leds. Since I don’t need the front panel, I do rip out the battery leads from the top. Next, I get a ballpark size on the plastic lens cover, and cut black poster board to fit. I add a small hole in the center large enough for the pi camera (I do tape the camera onto this poster board to keep the camera in place). The rear portion of the cylinder requires a dremel treatment (where the fake cable exits) so I can run ethernet and USB power into the canister. Finally, I take a modified USB cable so I can have power, and connect it to the board. I use ethernet and USB through the dremeled back end.
This initially sounds good, but you may notice my mention of a “modified USB cable.” Here’s the rub. The pi will slide into the canister just fine, but without USB. You can solder to the USB power pins, connect directly to the gpio (but you’ll be missing out on the input power fuses), or drill another hole in the canister to provide the power-in. If you cut your USB cable and solder a new micro connector WITHOUT the cable relief plug, things WILL fit. Doing this does run the risk of the power in cable breaking (and I have had to replace a few due to infant mortality).
Obviously, a pi zero may be a better option for you (still tight), since you will have more room to get a normal USB power connection. If you want ethernet, a OTG adapter+USB hub with ethernet may work, but you’re giving up quite a bit of processing (if you’re just doing RTSP, you’ll probably be fine).

These dummy security cameras really look real because there are real security cameras that are made and look exactly like them…. and the real ones are made out of plastic as well (what today isn’t made of plastic); but the real ones we have are smaller. You cannot tell the difference in construction though, even up close… but our real ones do not have forward-facing flashing red lights. They are clandestine. The perpetrators never know that they are on camera.
However, what we did was to hide our real cameras and expose the fake ones. That way if some savvy professional crook decides to disable the fake ones somehow, he’d better smile because he will be on the real hidden “Candid Cameras.”
We put two AA Lithium batteries in each dummy. They claim that a couple of plain old alkalines will last at least 6 months. We shall see how long these last.
There have been two home invasions on our block (it’s a long block) in the last year. So, now we have a fake camera system, a real monitored one (Simply Safe), and a good back-up one referred to as “Smith and Wesson.” …. the latter probably being the best deterrent of all.

these are great dummy cameras.I put the batteries in just about 3 months ago and the little red light is still blinking bright and steady.Everyone thinks they are real cameras.Love it.Just 2 or 3 screws and they are installed.
