As a video/media professional for the past 20 years, I have used an extensive amount
of equipment at many different levels of size, quality and price. I have several SmallRig
products in my arsenal for which I use as a bridge between my many cameras and the
    associated accessories.
Right out of the box, I was immediately impressed with the solid build quality and
    compactness of this tabletop tripod.
I’ve used many types of tabletop tripods, but this one is by far the sturdiest and feature
    loaded.
This unit cost me $40. and judging by competition out there for similar products, I would
expect this one to be 2 to 3 times more expensive than it actually is.
I tested out a variety of cameras on this including; a Sony A7s(pictured), Canon T3i,
BlackMagic Micro Cinema camera, etc. But what really surprised me, was that it was
able to hold up my 10 lb Blackmagic Ursa Mini if balanced properly. Not that I would
ordinarily mount such a large heavy camera on this, but for a test, it was nice to see that
    it can handle the weight.
This tripod is perfectly suited for medium to full sized mirrorless and DSLR cameras, as
well as medium sized camcorders. For me, it’s all about compactness for travelling.
Great low profile spread for a stable low center of gravity.
Although it is not a typical fluid head video tripod using a drag system, upon loosening
the pan lock, the ball head had a decent amount of resistance to achieve smooth
panning shots with a 50mm prime. Something I was not expecting and very pleased
with. The ball head has a decent amount of adjustability and a nice tight locking grip. It
is nice to see that one can pull and rotate the two locking knobs for clearance so the
plate and camera do not come in contact to the knobs. The bubble level on the plate
locking knob is also a handy added feature for portrait shooting. The unit folds up nicely
for a compact design without a compromise on its strength and durability. It’s also nice
to see an all metal design, something which in my option is a staple trademark of
SmallRig. The rivet secured rubber feet are fantastic with high quality thick rubber
providing a solid traction at a multitude of angles. The ball head can also be easily
removed and attached to any 3/8″ male threaded equipment like magic arms or
superclamps. I used this ball head to attach to a slider carriage on a shoot yesterday
    and it worked beautifully.
I love this tripod for its excellent design, durability and fantastic price point!

I wanted to update this – after i posted this review, the company contacted me – they REALLY worked with me on developing a solution. They sent me replacements and we emailed to produce a solution. Given this and the improved listing, i would buy this again. They have a couple of models – one that has 2 positions, full upright and then wide open so it sits flat to accomodate a heavy camera. And then this model:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0833XY83V?ref=myi_title_dp&th=1

The legs can be opened to 45 degrees so it can accomodate a GoPro camera.

But I am very pleased with the attention from the company. They have really done what is right and what so few others do – make something better!

    OLD POST:
One really important thing- to adjust the legs you have to use an Alan wrench (included) but that wasn’t expected. And they shift anyway. I can’t get the tight enough to stay locked.

Was will ich mehr!

Ok so to start, I used to have a SILK Mini tripod which was my go-to mini tripod. I’ve had it for a few years now and it’s finally seen its day.

This new tripod is really awesome. The ball head makes a big difference and it also means I can easily level the tripod when its on an un even ground. The ball head is strong enough to hold my Sony a7iii and 16-35mm F2.8 and Rode Mic.I can also point the camera directly up which is great for some shots. It’s also got a smooth pan option – almost feels like a fluid head. The head is removable so I can use the legs with a different head if I need to which is also cool. The red rubber pieces at the end of the legs are also super helpful on smooth services to grip properly. Build quality is super sturdy and strong.

I highly recommend this mini tripod.

I got this tripod to support my mirrorless camera with a heavy lens for video shootings, and it does it very well.
It feels very solid. The ballhead moves very smoothly. The tripod can even make smooth pans for video shooting. It is super steady in low position. It wasn’t obvious for me how to put it in the middle or up position, as there are no locks or anything, but it turns out there are no needed – you just put the legs in position you want to, and thanks to rubber feet it stays there.
There is even a level bubble. It is more useful for vertical shots, put works for horizontal too.
The head can be disconnected and used separately, as well as legs.

I want to start by saying SmallRig makes some really great stuff – I use their camera cages, handles, monitor mounts, etc and love it all. So it was a no-brainer for me to pick up this tripod based on how much I love their stuff.
Here’s the problem: the legs don’t lock in any position. Not at the usual 20-30° angle from the base, not straight out, nothing at all. They are basically just on a free swinging hinge. Now, if your camera is extremely light AND the tripod is sitting on something that can grip the rubber feet, everything else about the tripod is great. It’s metal, feels solid, well constructed, etc. but the legs are a deal breaker for me and this tripod is essentially, unfortunately unusable. I even tried to run a shoestring through the slots in the legs to create a stopping point somewhere in the legs but even that proved extremely unstable. Very unfortunate product for such an otherwise great company.
