I must own about 100 RAM mount components of various types for mounting cameras to various vehicles. This one is for my new GoPro Hero 4 Silver action camera and I use it to mount the camera in an airplane. Like all RAM products it’s extremely rugged and fits exactly right. My only wish would be for RAM to provide a nut that fits the GoPro handle in the package. RAM provides a black nylon lock nut and Phillips head bolt with the adapter. The lock nut fits into a matching hex slot on one side of the adapter and will only fit the black screw that RAM provides. They send another handle that you can hand tighten without a tool like the normal GoPro handles, but they don’t provide a nylon lock nut that will fit it. I had to take the cap nut out of one of the other GoPro mounts. The problem is that the hex slot doesn’t fit the GoPro cap nut as well and the camera moves slightly on the mount even when tightened as a result. I ended up using the black nut and bolt provided by RAM but a Phillips screwdriver is required to tighten or loosen it. Otherwise, it’s a good adapter. Much tougher than the plastic mounts provided by GoPro.

Frankly, I am a bit disappointed in RAM on this one. I have quite a few of their products and have been happy with them. But the hardware they supplied with this one is a joke. Even if they wanted to go cheap and just include a regular screw and nut, why not at least supply one that is the right size for the hole? The one they give you us way undersized and allows for freeplay on the pivot, not to mention requiring a screwdriver to get enough torque to get it to hold. And really, if they are going to claim GoPro compatibility, a captive cap nut with an M5x.8 thread should have been standard equipment – even if they didn’t want to include a thumb screw.
I was able to pick up some cap nuts at the local hardware store, but of course they don’t fit tight in the hex slot of the adapter, so I tried super gluing one in place. Seemed like it would work, until the first time I tried to use it in the field and found out the superglue didn’t bond well to the plastic and the nut popped out and in to the powdery dirt underneath me. Took 3 of us digging around in the dirt for 10 minutes to find it.
Other than that, it’s ok. I put it through some pretty rough pounding and no problems once I had it attached. It will work with “proper” GoPro nuts and thumbscrews, if you happen to have some spares. Were it not for the lame hardware, I would have given it a 5.

Excellent delivery time . A really good piece of equipment for my action camera. Thinking about buying another camera if so will be buying another Ram Bolt.

Bought this because RAM had a clamp system I liked the look of. Invested in this and few more other parts, they are super solid and a direct match for the cameras. The company included screws that could swapped out and suggested I could reverse this to enable me to have the GoPro base mount connected, you can but its not pretty. you can buy that part directly from RAM too.

In my opinion RAM mounts makes some of the best mounting solutions out there for mounting almost everything to almost anything, this is especially true for mounting a GoPro.
I love being able to securely mount my Gopro to my Harley Davidson and be confident that it’s not going to end up falling off and go rolling down the highway, this way I can get this great shots of our rides while staying focused on riding, traffic and whatever else is going on around me. I have several RAM mounts and I recently picked up a second Gopro and found myself in need of my second Gopro hero adapter, fyi if you are not familiar with RAM mounts you will need a couple of other interchangeable parts to go with this. This is kind of an add on we’ll say. You can check out RAM mounts website or numerous YouTube videos for more info.
I highly recommend picking one up for each of however many Gopros you own, your like me you’ll find yourself using them in many different situations.

Drops straight into your Stem and grips very tightly. Make sure you get the right diameter for your Bike (check manufacturers Website). I bought this along with the small clamp and SatNav/Smartphone Holder and it works exceptionally well. I’ve uploaded a full review video if you’d like to see more info on my UTube Chanel. Search for TheThorpester.

As always worth paying a few pounds more and getting the actual RAM mount parts.

The first issue with this is that the bolt it comes with has to be tightened down by a Phillip’s head screwdriver. You are able to replace that with the GoPro thumb screw like all other GoPro mounts, which I did. However, the second issue is that you have to use a considerable amount of force to tighten the screw so the GoPro doesnt flip back and forth… much more than the standard GoPro mounts. I purchased a third party ram GoPro mount that works perfectly so I’ll use that instead.
The Hulls –
We were hoping to use the GoPro mount to create a forward-facing camera in our car using the RAM windshield mount, unfortunately, we could not get the angles to work without the actual suction mount blocking the majority of the visible area. If you are looking to have an inboard camera mount from RAM for your GoPro, this accessory is perfect. If you try to mount an outward-facing GoPro, this small attachment will not work.

Good option to mount GoPro to RAM mounts. Only gripe for me is the vibration caused by the rubber balls in the RAM system. I would prefer a more solid connection.

Its quite unbelievable that Ram mounts would allow to sell a GoPro adapter that does not fit GoPro. I have used Ram mounts for a while on my aircraft and trust the quality enough that if one breaks off I’ll have a serious prop strike since I am flying a pusher config. But this is beyond me. Really bad engineering, the middle peg is too thin so even if you could make it fit, you’d have that plastic peg squeezed as you’d tighten the screw to compress around the GoPro casing mount.

Only giving this 4 stars for now because I haven’t put it to use with my GoPro yet. I will update once I actually use it.
Works with my other RAM mounts with no issues. Quality product like all my other RAM mount products.
Unlike previous reviews, my adapter came with a captive nut that is the same threads as the official GoPro thumbscrews. No need to carry a screwdriver to change the GoPro pieces. Looks as though RAM has listened to customers and changed the design. Also came with the two screws seen in the attached pictures.
