This was a great monitor for the price.
I paired this with my Canon R5 to work as a cinema rig. It looked great and even the touch function was pretty decent.
The graphic obviously was not the highest quality. But you can not compare a monitor like SmallHD that cost twice this and expect the same quality.
I actually did not even really have a lot of problems for indoor use until I took this setup in Northern California for a couple days of outdoor filming.
The monitor would get hot so quick and literally starts pressing random functions around the menu as if it was haunted or something. It was so consistently doing that for just a regular outside gig where even the R5 was working fine (and R5 has the heat issue) I had to take down the monitor.
So if you are doing a lot of outside filming then I would definitely think about that. I genuinely could not make the most of out of this for outdoor filming.

For someone who owns an Andycine A6, this monitor is an upgrade. Its bright screen, touchscreen, weight and easy to use menu system makes it a worthy upgrade.
Tested this om my GH5, BMPCC4K and BMPCC6K Pro and it worked flawlessly. Highly recommended.

I went with this monitor for the ability to control my FX3 through the monitor. There are many different option menus to choose from. Touch focus works very well. They have vertical reference bars to help when shooting for social media. Getting setup can be a little confusing but there are plenty of videos on YouTube that helped me. It takes NPF batteries which have lasted me hours off a single charge. Definitely worth it overall.

I am a professional videographer with 90% of my work being run n gun, so a solid, bright, monitor is a requirement. I’m reviewing this monitor paired with a Canon C70.
First off, the good:
– Super bright, I’m able to shoot in full sun EASILY with this monitor. Heads and shoulders above the built in C70 screen. I’ve never actually used a monitor that’s this bright before.
– The build quality is quite good, especially for this price range. Aluminum body, super nice glass screen, all connections are super solid. I’m really impressed with the quality for price on this model.
– The camera control is really cool. For the C70 it runs into the USB-C, and I’ve really only used it for the record function. Which works great, with a slight delay. It will add a red rectangle around the image when recording (displays no matter how you start recording). This is a HUGE benefit to my workflow on the camera, especially in situations where I don’t want to use the tally light. Setting it up to work for camera control took all of 2 minutes.
– On low the built in fan is totally silent. I’m not sure when, if ever, you’d need to use the high setting, but that does get very loud. I suspect you could turn it up between takes if needed.
And, the bad:
– The UI is a bit clunky. It’s more than usable, but you’ll need to read over the manual basics a few times to remember what direction to swipe and where to find all the functions. This isn’t really something you need to get into in the field, so it’s not of much concern to me, but I think Portkeys will want to work on refining this as firmware updates are released.
– The camera control for the C70 is only partially functional. I have not been able to get WB, Iris, Shutter Speed, or focus to work at all via the monitor. These functions are all listed as being functional within the manual. In some cases trying to adjust them makes the C70 itself freeze, and I was only able to reset by removing the battery. Thankfully, I just don’t use that screen while working, and I’m still able to use “rec” function successfully in every situation. Which is really all I want.
– The mount is 1/4″ with locating pins. I would have loved to have seen a 3/8″ arri mount to expand the mounting options. As it is rigging this takes an extra part or two. This is exasperated by the lack of really any cages for this monitor.
My wishlist:
– The monitor is great as a standard monitor, but I’d love some functionality issues to be addressed in firmware updates. Primarily the camera control and menu function.
– I’d LOVE touch to focus functionality on this monitor for the C70, but I know that will probably never happen due to Canon’s remote support.
– I’d love a screen mode that is just the “rec” button functionality. No other buttons.
In summary, this is a great monitor with the possibility to be even better with a handful of firmware updates.

The product information indicates that the monitor is compatible with a canon 5DMkiv using a micro cable. So far I have not found a cable which will connect the two. Email portkey and they just say use that cable.
I would now like to inform you all that Portkeys have been in touch with me and are sending to me a cable which will do the job.
That is a great response from Portkeys. Thank you.

For the mid range videographer it’s perfect. Lovely screen image, easy to navigate, solid build, but it doesn’t come with a battery or the HDMI to mini HDMI that you need to shoot on A7S

The brightness and image quality is awesome but unfortunately on the Canon R6, the touch AF doesn’t work like it’s stated. The only camera control function is the touch record button. Save yourself $275 and get their other monitor without the camera control functions. If they update the firmware and make the touch AF function on the R6, I’d buy it again but I returned it for now.

Bought this to pair with my a7siii and help ensure subjects are in focus. I didn’t need external recording and the Portkeys LH5P II provided the best range of features as well as full touch focus control. One feature I wish it had was to allow zebras to go down to 41%. It’s lower limit is at 50% but for S-Log3 I have my a7siii set to 41% for middle grey exposure. Hoping this can be updated with firmware in the future!

Very pleased with this little fella. Use it on my b cam, a bmpcc4k – it’s brilliant for gimbals with the bluetooth camera control and can be powered from a dtap. The screen is great and on smaller cameras, this is the perfect size. It’s plenty bright enough too and sharp enough for focussing from. I’ve already got a portkeys as my directors monitor but this new one is better quality with a metal body. If I ever manage to move on from gemini to raptor, I’d definitely look at portkeys again, the 7″ monitors are just too big for raptor or komodo. One issue to note though – a problem on blackmagic’s end rather than portkeys, is that it doesn’t automatically re link when you power off and on again. Apparently, something needs updating at BMD’s end to make this happen.

This isn’t a ‘cheap’ monitor, but it’s also not a stupidly expensive one. It sits nicely in the middle – you really do get what you pay for though. The metal construction is LOVELY – it really feels good of good quality. The screen too.. WOW – it’s lovely – the colours really POP, and it gives a nice accurate reproduction. It’s not overly reflective, and the viewing angles are top notch too!
It has an inbuilt fan to keep it cool, you can control the speed of it so it doesn’t interfere with quieter recordings (to be fair even on the highest setting – it’s pretty quiet!).
I LOVE that it comes with a hard storage case too – this could only be made better by a little section in it to store cables – but that’s just being SUPER picky!
It didn’t seem to be able to control my Canon M6 Mk 2 – and that’s fine – it’s not on the list of supported cameras, however you can easily update the firmware on this, so if it does become available then that’s great!
The touchscreen is snappy and responsive – the interface is VAST though – there are so many settings and tweaks you can make. It’s a bit daunting to start with – but you get the hang of it in time.
This is my first PortKeys product, and I’m really pleased with it. Looking forward to taking it out and about with me more!

Just received the Portkeys monitor and on day 1 of setting up I figured out that the ‘Bluetooth’ element does not transmit an image, just your control settings and nothing else. Kind of pointless since you’re required to connect the monitor to the device via HDMI. You’ll almost never use the wireless functions.
Pros :
slightly better image quality than a regular $70-$100 wired monitor
Pre-load LUTS to see what your final product will look like
some of the controls are useful
Cons :
Hardly better than a $30-$100 monitor.. only real difference is addition of LUTS & false colors
$399 price tag for hardly any additional functionality compared to an $80 monitor.
Wireless in this case DOES NOT MEAN truly wireless. You’ll still need to connect your camera via hardwire, so whats the point of advertising the wireless functionality?

I was looking for a very bright monitor. I shoot in Florida in summer days and it’s exactly what I needed. It also has all the other options one would need to monitor any shoot. Touch screen and being able to control my Sony camara a7iv is also a big plus.

All the Feature work on the FX30 Camera including the Focus Tracking. I have connected this with Wifi and HDMI. You need to turn off HDMI Information transmitting and turn On control by PC. Also make sure it is on the 2.4 G. Excellect Value for the money and crips picture. Enjoy.
