If all you need to do is just be able to make sure that you’re in focus, and what’s in the field of view, then this is a good choice. You get exactly what you should be expecting, for $100 and no more, which is bare minimum at the very least.

This does what I need it to do, I also have an Atomos ninja-5 that is out-freakin-standing, that I use for my main camera, that actually does record footage for me, this one from Newer though is for a secondary camera, that I just need to make sure is in focus and it framed properly.

If that’s all you need to do, then this is a good investment.

I purchased an Akaso V50 Elite and Brave 6 action cam. Both are capable of recording 4K video and have mini HDMI output connectors. The V50 elite can record up to 4K@60FPS and the Brave 6 up to 4K@24FPS. My main intent for these action cams are to create some Youtube videos. However, what I learned soon after purchasing the cams was that it was difficult making sure the video I was recording was in frame when the back of the screen of the cam was facing the other way and an external video monitor should help me solve that problem.

What I was really unsure about when purchasing this monitor was would it be able to display the video when the action cams were in 4K record operation modes. I was pleased to learn that this monitor was capable. I also wasn’t quite sure even if the action cams were in 4K mode, the resolution which it would be putting out from the HDMI output. What I discovered with the Akaso V50 elite is that when it was set to 4K@60FPS resolution and recording, it would output 720p@60Hz but when not recording it would output 4K (3840×2160@30Hz). This video monitor was able to switch seamlessly with the different outputs being fed from the Akaso action cams.

The video display quality seems good to me but that wasn’t as important to me for my uses. I just wanted to make sure I was able to monitor what the cam was seeing regardless of the resolution mode I was recording at from the action cam, and it definitely is able to do that.

The pictures I included displays what the action cam is feeding it when the cam isn’t recording and when it is recording.

Another thing that is confusing is with the type of batteries that you can connect to this display. It says it supports ‘Sony NP-F550″ which is true but I would recommend to not purchase that series of batteries but instead purchase Sony NP-F750/NP-F770 series batteries instead. The reason is that NP-F550 batteries are 2600mAH and may last 1-2 hours max on a single charge. The NP-F750 batteries are 5200mAH and will last twice as long on a single charge while at the same time are about the same price as the NP-F550 size batteries. The NP-F750 batteries are about double the size as the NP-F550 batteries since they are double the life but I don’t feel they’re too big to attach to this monitor.

The only problem I have had with this monitor is with the HDMI connection in a couple of instances. It comes with a bracket which will hold the HDMI cable more secure which I have not tried. I had some difficulties where I found myself jiggling the cable and the monitor was not displaying the video due to the micro to full size HDMI cable connected between the cam and the monitor. However, I am unsure at this time if that problem was due to the camera side connection, the monitor side connection or the cable itself. I will update my review once I’ve had more time to use this setup and am able to determine if the monitor HDMI connection is the problem or not. Also speaking to the HDMI cable it comes with a Mini to HDMI cable, where I wish it came with a Micro to HDMI cable instead.

This monitor limits your onboard camera functions, the lack of touch screen and the monitor taking priority over the cameras touch screen functions causes more frustration than freedom. I am dissapointed with this item because it seems incompatible with my main vlogging camera. I can not recommend this item, it’s limited and will cause more frustration, hampering any creative abilities.

I bought this monitor to use with my Lumix GH5 and GX80 cameras to give a bigger image than the screen on the camera to help with shooting and also when showing clients – the monitor is fantastic value (and the same price as the smaller version) and the picture quality is great. Run off Sony NPF batteries (not included) and is dead easy to set up and use. Highly recommonded

just kidding it smoked and a burned scent came from it… the replacement works pretty well… alot of menus and frustration but once you have the set up configured its not a bad buy.
if you bought this and its not give an image be sure to turn the camera off and on again. worked for me the few times that it did act up

This is a decent quality monitor with some useful features for field use. But it has a weird aspect ration of 16:10. You can select various aspect ratio options but the normal video 16:9 setting just crops from the left side of the screen instead of reducing the displayed height to show the full image. In the ‘Panorama’ setting it fills the screen and you get an image that is too high, so a little distorted.

I’m using as I needed it for a multiview monitor for video direction, accuracy is not my priority for that purpose, it’s close enough, But as a video camera monitor in HD it’s useless. I had hoped the Zoom mode, which includes a vertical zoom, would allow me to adjust this but it only allows zoom in, not zoom out.

It’s a shame, I got mine on a special deal so it was cheap enough for me to overlook the problem, but it’s not doing the job it was claimed to do – display 1080p videos in a production environment. Not recommended.

It is easy and quick to set up. Keep in mind to turn off the wifi on your camera for the connection.

This display is just what I needed for my sony a6000. However, here’s a few things to bear in mind before you buy it.
    – First, this is a really great display for the price. Its easy to use, bright, and shows a very clear picture.
    – It comes with several cables, but if you are a sony shooter, you will need an HDMI to Mini HDMI. In the description, it says that it does not come with this cable – but it DOES!
    – It does NOT come with batteries. I purchased the Artman NP-550 2 pack on amazon for $19.99 and they work great.
    – Take the batteries out when you are done with the display. For some reason, it doesn’t seem like the display actually turns “off”. I’ve pushed the power button and held it but there is a red light that stays on. Then, when I go to use it with my camera, the battery is dead. So I recommend pulling the battery off the back. There is a button you push to release the battery.

    – *****THIS IS IMPORTANT*****. When I first plugged in the display, there was this horrific, ear piercing feedback that started blasting. I thought it was broken. However, there is volume on the display, and on your camera. You MUST TURN BOTH OF THESE DOWN in order to not hear this feedback. So make sure your camera volume and the display volume are down so you don’t seriously damage your ear drums.

And that’s it. Great display for a great price. I have used it for about two weeks now and no complaints, but I will update if something happens later on.

hope this helps the next buyer!
