This thing is the bomb. Using the tall mount on top of my helmet, you can just see my hands on the handlebars. It’s as close to being there as it gets, the wide angle view looks goofy in a still, but is just how you see it when you are in motion. My wife (non-rider) saw the video the first time and was all excited. She’s seen helmetcam video for a year from my Oregon Scientific helmetcam, but it’s a 52º Field of view, compared to the 170º field of view from the GoPro. She says this one is amazing, and that she didn’t ‘get’ what was exciting about riding MX from the other cam.
It’s a quality unit, light enough you don’t know it’s there. New cases are about $40, so if you biff and shred it, easy fix. You will have to get 1000ma NiMh batteries, battery life is crap with regular duracells. I got by with a new set of batteries each day, but the NiMh give adequate life. The mount isn’t direction sensitive, so you can stick the camera in backwards without any modifications if you like. Get the Motorsports version, it’s got your helmet covered and has all kinds of cool other mounting options in the box. 8^)
To see what the vid looks like, go to the GoPro site and check out the example video from Loretta Lynn’s Am. Nats. Excellent!

Again, great helmet video camera for the price. I didn’t have the battery issues many have complained about. I use the cheapo Radio Shack rechargables AAA’s that come with a charger along with cheapo SanDisk 2GB SD cards. It gives me a solid hour of recording time (2GB card + one set of batt’s). For me, after an hour of riding it’s time for a break. No biggie to change the batteries an SD card during a rest stop.

The playback isn’t that great in low or bad lighting conditions. It’s more of a fair weather (good lighting conditions) camera. The playback isn’t as clear as a cheap cam-corder, a little grainy, but I’m very suprized of how steady the playback was after filming some very bouncy dirt bike riding. The mounting hardware that came with my “motor sports” version suites all of my needs and offers many different ways for helmet mounting.

The price for the 5 meg pixel NON-HD version is pretty reasonable from what it was when they first came out. I think it was $165 with standard USPS shipping. I paid a few more dollors for the, so called, faster delivery time hoping that I would get it in time for a big riding trip. The extra cost in the, so called, expidited shipping was a waste. It wasn’t delivered before my departure. The company that I ordered through shipped via USPS (snail mail) so it took about a full week to get to my door step. No big deal, I just wish I didn’t pay for the extra cost for the, so called, faster shipping.

I wish I had the HD version for the better picture quality but I’m not complaining about this unit due to price I paid. It has done a good job saving some great riding on film. I’m sure I’ll get the curent HD version when it becomes a little out dated and the price drops like the one that I now own (5 meg pixel version).

If you can aford to spend the extra cash on the HD version skip the 5 meg pixel and go HD. If you can only aford the standard model go for it. The price is reasonable and the ability to catch some great memories on video to enjoy over and over again, reguardless of non-HD clearity, is priceless!

This camera works very well. The mounting options are many and work great. My biggest complaint to the first GoPro is the audio. It has a static-like background that is very annoying. I emailed GoPro and they said it’s normal…well, it sucks (to me). However, it may not bother many. If you’re one who lays audio over your vids, the static would be a non-issue. The video is good. I hear the HD version is outstanding on audio and video…much improved to this model.

A friend of mine had a GoPro Hero and I really liked the quality of the images produced from the tiny thing. So I ended up craving for one. I noticed GoPro released the Hero Wide version and after being amazed at the video quality from their testing along with user uploads, the choice was easy. The ease of use, picture quality, and built-in features was more than I expected. 5mp pictures and TV quality video is all I was really after, but also being able to mount this shock/water proof camera in various places was the icing on the cake. I love it, go buy one or five!

The only bad thing I noticed was that some of the plastic mounts it came with were a bit cheap and broke easily. But I still give it 5 outta 5

I have a ATK2 and wanted something a bit better. When the GOPRO arrived I couldn’t beleive how small it was. The picture quality, for what it is, to me is fantastic. I have only had it a couple of days and haven’t tried the sound yet so I can’t comment, nor on the battery life. It came well packaged and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. I love it. The only gripe is I used it at night and the picture is a bit dark to say the least but I don’t plan on doing much filming at night. I use it on my motorbike and was a bit worried it would blow off my helmet but the pads are super sticky. I would certainly recomend this to anyone and will start saving for the HD version.

This a good cheap camera if you don’t mind sound. It has its pros and cons.

    Pros:
    Nice pictures
    Nice video
Pictures and video shows a “fish eye” view of everything. I personally like how it looks.
    Super small
If it came with the suction cup, it’s easy to mount onto that and record stable video.

    Cons:
Sound is pretty much non existent
Pictures and videos at night are terrible
Batteries die within 20 mins. I carry 12 batteries because of this problem.
No zoom features or anything with the camera.
No way to see what video or pictures until you put it up on a computer. The camera uses sd card.

All in all, you get what you pay for. You get a tiny camera that takes nice video and pictures during the day. If sound is really important for you, then I suggest you go with something else. Although, I heard the newer HD version of this camera have improved sound quality. In my opinion, the camera is a good deal for its price.
