Good kit for the price. Only disappointment is the plastic quick release plate, which is baffling given the quality of the rest of the rig. Still, holds my Canon 80D in place relatively securely.

i am a pro producer and have pro gear, but i wanted a couple rigs i could keep in my car for run and gun “pop up” shots so i did a lot of research. This particular rig seems to give the MOST features for the money. First it is a plastic rig w metal rods and i feel i will have to be very careful not to overtighten any of the nuts and knobs…that said, it is a great rig for the money i really like it. it is very complete and the matte box alone is worth the money. as the description says it comes as pictured and for $125. thats a lot that it comes with. im using an expensive follow focus from a different company because a good FF is important to me. the full rig with a cine lens and a basic DSLR without audio is pretty heavy so the counter balance helps…again cant go wrong for the money. if u shop around on ebay and amazon for knock of foreign rigs under $150, i challenge you to find one with this many 15mm rods, this long and this quality matte box. im confident the plastic cage would provide adequate protection for at least one incursion, which is good enough. Filmcity has many rigs ranging in price with similar equipment, however this rig had the most feature for the buck. its heavy decked out, but i took off the shoulder rods and top of the cage and handles, and have a light weight rail system that cost less than the rails and quick release plate alone, so no matter how you look at it, it IS worth the amazon price of $125.
NEXT the big surprise!!!!! i ordered it and at checkout, it said 18-30 days delivery from India…i figured for the money, so what, and ordered it anyhow…when i checked the status 2 days after ordering, it still said about 20 days till delivery…when i check my mail 4 days after ordering it, it had arrived!!!!!! cheap basic packaging, but so what, it came as described in ONLY 4 days!!!WOW good job Film city. i had received everything from India in only 4 days, i cant send a package from the west coast to the east coast in 4 days without paying a fortune. I am very impressed and very satisfied. the rig looks bada#% too. im liking it more than my $5000.00 rig, not because quality is better, but because the functionality is good and it was Affordable…even if it only lasts a year, im sure it will last longer, i could buy a new one every year for 46 years and still not spend what i did on my pro rig, so dont bash the plastic…it works and it looks great, and its only $125. is it a cheap knock off, yea, but it is sturdy enough, its functional, the mattebox is better than the little sunshades, this one hold filters, and ITS ONLY $125. unless you have the budget save your money and buy a better follow focus and Glass. hope this review helps
lost in space –
It took me almost two days and a lot of trial-and-error to successfully put this product together. The distributor, ProAim, sent me an email the day it was delivered thanking me for my purchase as well as providing me with a URL to download the assembly instructions. There are around 25-30 parts to this rig, including the tubing. Unfortunately, the photos in the instructions are very basic and often hide how some parts are attached (I still have two parts left over that I have no idea what I’m supposed to do with). Some of the tubing can be joined to make it longer, although the instructions say nothing about it. ProAim or FilmCity should seriously consider creating a YouTube video showing the assembly in more detail and referring their buyers to that.
I originally thought the upper barn door to the matte box was missing, and I sent a different email to three different addresses I could find on ProAim’s website. Later I then found the barn door sandwiched between two pieces of foam that I thought had been just for padding. Overnight I received three responses from the emails I sent, so I was impressed by ProAim’s eagerness to help me.
Despite the rig being completely plastic, once I got it together I was surprised by its sturdiness. There is a shoulder pad (also plastic, and hard as a rock) with a 2-pound counterweight that I found balanced my camera perfectly when I put the rig on my shoulder, and I was able to get footage that was much more stable than if I had shot it handheld.
Drawbacks: the cage arms are quite a bit taller than they need to be when using a DSLR with it. I use it with a Sony A7Siii, and the cage arms are twice the camera’s height. It would be great if FilmCity could create some arms that are about 4 inches shorter. The arms have several tightening screws and it will come apart when they’re removed; I thought I’d be able to shorten their length that way, but I couldn’t find a way to do it.
I have to say the biggest disappointment is the matte box. It’s quite flimsy. There are three barn doors (one top and two sides… they decided not to include a bottom door for some reason) you’re required to attach with small screws, and they often come loose and require periodic re-tightening. Considering the rig’s two-hundred-dollar price tag, this should have been manufactured as one solid piece (and preferably metal). The “knicker” (the cloth bag on the matte box that fits over the camera lens) frequently slides off the box and is a total pain in the butt to have to continually put back on; it would have been very helpful if there were some kind of drawstring to tighten it to matte box so it doesn’t slide off so easily. I was able to secure it a little more snugly using a rubber band. The most frustrating aspect of the box is using a zoom lens and having a great deal of difficulty manually extending it. The quick release plate continually needs to be adjusted to accomodate it, as zooming out will actually push the camera too far back, which then results in seeing the matte box itself in the shot. I have to manually push the release plate forward or backward. I rarely if ever manually zoom in or out when I’m shooting anything, so it’s tolerable. But if I were it would be almost impossible to get a smooth zoom with this matte box.
In any case, despite its shortcomings, it’s a pretty good deal for the price. It’ll work very well for stabilizing my usually shaky handheld shots. It also looks great!

I originally bought this for making my canon 700D look good, I also bought a nonja V to get 4 K and there were some handy points to screm an arm in for the monitor. The Matte box makes the rig look cool, along with teh elasticated hood that wraps around the lens, but you will need ring adapters to stop it slipping of your normal non Cine lenses. I have since Cine converted my lenses, and also bought vintage glass to convert to cine. I have now bought a Sony FS700U (pictured with NinjaV 4k) .Don’t be put off by it looking plasticy, it turns heads with my little canon 700D. and now coupled with my Sony FS700 jaws drop after the heads of turned. For teh price it is great value for money, if you notice in the pic, to balance my rig make up, I have positioned teh counter weight at teh front to compenste for teh two V Lock batteries I use to power the Ninja V and the Tascam 70DR which you may make out underslung at the rear under the batteries. I do have some extra add ons (Cheese plates, V Lock battery & 15mm Rods clamps etc) to enhance from small rig, but everything compatible with this pro aim DSLR Shoulder rig. I’ve also bought extra quick release plates so I can rip it off the tripod onto my shoulder with minimal fuss and effort. It is very customable to your own requirements, and with the range of assorted different size 15mm rods, you can make this up how you want to.

Honestly when I received it I was actually quite happy with it initially but as soon as I got it out in the field i has huge stability problems even when you tighten everything up all the way. It’s now at the point where it just falls apart at the fastenings. I will be trying to return mine

In with the bad first,
No instructions what so ever in the packaging. I found a video online thankfully.
Not the sturdiest in the world. I will be swapping out the mount for a stronger metal one.
Good stuff.
Great budget friendly kit probably better for smaller cameras than mine.
Apart from the camera mount it’s very strong plastic.
Matte box is pretty good for the price.
Carry handle is nice and strong.
Overall good but of kit for the money. It’s versatile for different uses I don’t need the shoulder mount but I can mount some other bits to the poles at the back, witch is useful.

Having read the description and quite a few reviews, I decided that this would be the most suitable product for my needs, noting that it was plastic construction, and the fact that none of the reviews mentioned the weight, I didn’t bother checking the weight before ordering. It arrived next day. BRILLIANT SERVICE!…BUT! As soon as I picked up the package, I knew I’d made a big mistake. I didn’t even open it! Returned straight away.
