Being a time lapse camera, it will commonly be used in construction applications you would think, right? Well, that’s why we purchased it/made the investment in it! We started a new company building custom homes and wanted to get video of the entire home being built. It did great, for a while. I wish there was something on the screen or some sort of spot to notify me of the battery life remaining…I would need to remove the camera, turn it off and back on to see if the batteries were dead.

I had to get creative with mounting it, but that wasn’t a big deal.

We have months of great time-lapse footage, so I can’t complain too much. However, after moving the camera inside (and truly expecting it to be fine) one of my subs knocked the camera on to the floor (so, it maybe fell 4 feet) and the supposed protective case broke. It still function’s fine, but the lens fell out somehow, so it is no longer water/weather proof. This is incredibly annoying and is the only reason I dropped my rating to 2 stars. Why build such a nice little camera and pair it with such an annoyingly fragile case? It doesn’t look like I can replace the lens cap either, so I am forced to spend another $25 on a new case? Pretty frustrating.

Just wanted to share my insight. Be careful with the case; don’t drop it!

This is a quick review of the Brinno TLC200 Pro. In short, it has too many issues to be used as a reliable, predictable time-lapse capture. It is a toy, and produces toy results.

    Pro:
    1. Incredible battery life – I did at least 10 time-lapse segments, each over a 12 hour period with increments from 1 sec, to 30 seconds, and the battery only dropped 20%.

    2. Nice form factor – comfortable design that fits easily in the hand. The lens has vertical adjustment, and manual focusing can be locked into place with a set-screw.

    3. Tripod mount is a nice feature.

    Con:
    1. Confusing user manual – written in several languages, but not one of them takes “time” to distinguish between Time, Time Lapse, Time Stamp, Timer, and Timer Recording. You are on your own.

    2. Poor image quality – Going with the ‘Best’ image quality, with exposure set for “Auto”, and HDR set for ‘Medium’, the capture does not even get close to correct image color under normal indoor lighting conditions. In the provided picture, my hairy Caucasian wrist comes out with a pasty-gray cast over it. While this may be a good look for me, it simply isn’t correct.

    3. Bad priority of function – I found out the hard way that if you try to use the ‘timer recording’, not only did it not record during the set time, but using this choice prevents any other manual recording, PERIOD.

I wouldn’t mind this if the machine warned users that they couldn’t manually use the camera whenever a ‘timer recording’ has been scheduled. IT DOESN’T. Instead, the camera will let you go through all the motions, even showing a ‘recording’ prompt, BUT NOT ACTUALLY RECORD ANYTHING! When you think you have completed a Time-Lapse capture (because the ‘recording’ indicator appeared), there is no actual file on the SD card when you want to retrieve it. WTF?

In short, you can’t trust this camera to perform the functions that the menu displays, and the indoor image quality is awash in false color. Something is wrong with the programming of this camera, when the ‘recording’ indicator is lit – and no file is created.

I will be returning it for a refund.

One of the waterproof cases developed condensation on the inside corner. It was not in the way of the lease and it didn’t develop enough to get into the camera itself, but this happened after just being outside for 3 days. It rained pretty heavy on day 2 of the camera being out. All of the negative comments about this camera are pretty accurate–the owner’s manual and directions for set up are not self-explanatory–you have to pretty much poke around with the controls and find your way through the settings on your own trial and error. Otherwise, the product and packaging was first class for the price. I don’t use this as a construction site camera or to capture moon and stars. I am using this instead of game cameras for security (trespass and poaching) issues. I needed to capture a wide field of view, all day long without someone triggering the camera. A game camera must be triggered within 50-60 feet of the camera. I needed to place this camera farther away (to avoid detection) and I needed a camera that took pictures without needing to be triggered. I believe this will fit the bill. The Sanyo batteries that come with the camera only lasted 3 days. I have set this camera for 10 second intervals and I am hoping to get 3 months out of the batteries, which is about the same amount of time I get out of batteries in a game camera.

Awesome product! At first I was a bit skeptical on purchasing this item since I had not worked with any time lapse cameras prior to my purchase. However, I am undoubtedly pleased with the product outcome. The item itself does not have many buttons so it avoids too much confusion. Although I must add, in order to fully comprehend the product functions, thorough reading MUST BE DONE before attempting to record anything with the camera. My favorite feature would have to be the time lapse frame set. I tested out several frame time screenings to see which would give me the best video outcome and preferably the 5 FPS was my favorite speed since I was not working with a very lengthy project at the time. The camera captured clear images and offered a vast view of my project in just the right amount of time. As opposed to having an extended 30 min video. I also MUST ADVISE when starting a recording, one MUST WAIT to see the “REC” in RED text to confirm the camera has begun recording. Vice versa when stopping the recording, I found that I MUST SEE the “Processing” in RED text to confirm my video has been recorded onto SD card. I read many previous emails about this problem specifically, however, with proper understanding and care the video recording will be just as expected. Hope this helps some if not all of you! 🙂
