In a nutshell, this item worked just fine. Fit was fantastic and the price is well less than half the name-brand.

    Details:
Before purchasing I read the complaints that it was flimsy and breakable. I wear my GoPro hiking, so generally it’s not at a huge risk of being destroyed if a mount breaks. I figured this item was worth trying out. When I unpacked it, it didn’t seem flimsy to me although I admit I didn’t put it through any torture tests.

I’ve been using the GoPro magnetic swivel clip, clipped onto my backpack strap up until now. The trouble with that is that it moves around quite a bit, usually changing the angle of the camera to the ground. No matter how often I check and correct it, I get home to find most of my pictures at an angle (not zero) to optimum. I hoped the chest mount would keep the camera level to the ground without so much checking and adjusting. As you might expect, it did wonderfully at that.

The size of the harness is barely suitable for me. If I had my druthers, they’d offer an “extra large,” but they don’t. I’m 6’1″ and 235#. I wore it with the harness straps fully extended – the biggest they can be. It was not uncomfortable, but I’m staying away from Christmas cookies for the next 11 months. I wore it under my jacket but over my shirt. I’m pretty sure it would not go outside my jacket. Definitely not comfortably.

When wearing it, it again felt sturdy enough. I think I’d use it even skydiving, bungee jumping or motorcycling. Checking camera functions was much easier with the chest mount than the swivel clip. I could easily flip the camera forward and check battery life, etc., then flip it back into place and move on. With the swivel clip, I had to take it off to check camera status, then put it back on and re-orient it.

In all, I think this mount is just fine. For less than half the price of the brand-name mount, it’s pretty easy to recommend.

The harness is good… But the plastic is brittle and cheap. I have used this harness twice while cycling. I have never crashed or been hard with it, but today while carefully mounting my GoPro the clip easily broke.

If I could buy a new clip or super glue it, I might be able to use the harness still. But for an action cam, I’m not going to recommend this. I usually like amazon products. But this one is cheap.

First of all I was slightly apprehensive about this product due to the price but so far it has been very durable. It’s very lightweight and easy to use, once you have it on you don’t even realise it’s there. I have used it in mud, rain etc (I used it for competing in a tough mudder event which was a 10 mile course) and it is brilliant. One downside for me was that you cannot face the go pro high enough, I.e it is facing slightly towards the ground more than I would like it to. Apart from this it is a very well priced and comfortable product and would recommend it.

I read the reviews, but considered the average over the few negatives saying that the plastic on the clip snapped straight away. I thought that it couldn’t possibly snap straight away. It snapped straight away. A total waste of my time, and now I’ve got to deal with the return process. I know this is a £9 “amazon basics” and people will say “what do you expect” over purchasing the £30 GoPro one, but really if it’s not fit for purpose it shouldn’t be getting sold. Imagine losing your £400 GoPro on a trail or in the snow because a bit of plastic snapped. Rubbish. Should be removed from marketplace. I wouldn’t even put one star, but I am forced to.

The GoPro Hero 8 video smoothing works well mounted to your chest.

The view is pretty good, and the camera can be angled back to see less of your knees and front tire.

It’s easy to put on and take off, slipping your arm through one loop, your head through the other, and then bringing the lose clip around and snapping it in place under your other arm. It’s even easier to take off.

    A couple of cons:
    * The screen is hidden by the mount, up against your chest, so it’s easy to hit the record button and think it’s recording, when it actually stops. I haven’t had any problem when using the GoPro remote. But it’s an issue when using just the top (red) button on the Hero to start recording – it can beep and then immediately stop recording. Maybe the type of beep/tone sequence indicates this condition?

It would be useful to have an opening in the back of the mount so you could pull the mount down and look at the screen to verify it’s really recording.

    * A slight annoyance is that it needs to be removed before taking off your jacket, if you put it on over it in the morning and then get too warm.

The mount is thick plastic and the bands are strong elastic. Plenty tight, and the length is adjustable. The whole thing is pretty light and can be thrown in the backpack and pulled out when you might want to record. There are no loose pieces to get lost. And the quick-release clips are easy to operate (I leave one always attached, and just slip an arm through, as I explained above.

A helmet-mounted GoPro might give a clearer view, and allow easier aiming side to side, but mounting it to your chest removes that extra weight from your head and neck. It also looks less conspicuous.

Decent price, fits well. but the clip on the J-hook broke during the first use.

update: The J-hook broke completely off while riding my roadbike.

The clips broke off and I lost my GoPro to the depths of the ocean. I love Amazon basic but this product cost me $400. Very sad about it.

I had some reservations buying this over the much more expensive name brand models but ultimately thought the price for the purpose made a lot of sense. The value is certainly there. I used this once and did have a good experience with it, fit well, was sturdy and mostly comfortable. All was good.

The problem came when I went to take it off. I went to disengage the clip that attaches the go pro to the harness and it literally snapped off. Surprisingly the harness can still be used but I don’t have much confidence that my expensive camera will stay attached throughout activities. I cant trust this and am so disappointed with this breaking on the first use because the clip was too brittle to fit the need. I will probably end up overpaying for the high end brand name now.

Wait until the next gen of this, dont buy this junk.

Chest mount received today. Opened the box, product looked great. Secured the GoPro to it, put it on myself. Tried to strap it and it broke straight away. Returning it straight away.

The chest mount did not even make it five minutes into the trail before I ran into difficulties such as not holding the gimbal in the place I had set it. I have had to make several modifications to the item on my own since purchasing it and I have only had the product for one week. This chest mount has less than 1 mile of use on it. The screw that you wou.d use to mount all things on it is cheaply glued into place and had it not broken on my desk I am 100% sure it would have broken on the trail leaving my $250 Gimbal and $200 camera to be trampled by not only my bike but any other rider behind me. DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON THIS PRODUCT. I will be having to apply loctite to where the screw had fallen out, and I have already applied a very specific style of washer to make the bracket mounting system more stable. I REPEAT AGAIN DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT SPEND THE EXTRA CASH AND GET THE GOPRO VERSION.

Once again I am over the moon with the quality of Amazon basics products.

This harness does the job perfectly and is just as adequate as the more expensive official GoPro chest mount.
The straps are of good quality and the buckles are as well. Look no further if you are looking for a chest harness to mount your gopro, you will not be disappointed.

I couldn’t be happier with this product.
