The camera is really nice. Nice clear sharp picture. Easy to setup and link to OBS with NDI. Single wire connection with a TP-Link TL-SG1005P power over ethernet switch. No noticeable latency. The built in web site for camera control is pretty bad. Go to the PTZOptics web site and get their camera control software for Windows or Mac. It works great with the SMTAV camera, allows you to name the first 9 presets and even puts little images on the buttons. Allows you to set the pan, tilt, zoom and preset movement speed. You can control all of the picture settings like brightness, sharpness, white balance, etc. All of the functions appear to work.

Generally whenever I get a new device I get the latest firmware for it. This is where SMTAV is falling down (so far). It seems that updating the firmware could deactivate NDI. I’m using NDI and don’t want to have to even try the different protocols. The SMTAV tech I’m communicating with via email says they can access the computer with TeamViewer and reactivate NDI if that happens. I’ve asked twice now if they can simply tell me the changes between the firmware I have now and the latest, but I can’t seem to get that question answered. If there are no significant changes, I’d rather just leave it alone but if I can’t find out what the changes are, I can’t really make an informed decision.

I’ll update this review if things get better.

These seem to be pretty good for the money, could use some more controls on the web interface for things like aperture and coloring but can’t complain because of how cost effective these are. I can’t speak to long term yet but initially get a good review.

Also just a note, these only appear to have NDI|HX and not full NDI which was a bummer but the h264 encoding seems pretty good so not a huge deal as long as you crank up the bitrate and have enough processing power to decode it.

First of all, the image on this camera is great, and streaming church services to YouTube from it has been working out great. However there are a few nagging things that keeps this from being a 5 star recommendation.
    1) While it’s great not needing to install any plugins to view the video the admin web page, the video on the page frequently stops working, and seems to always lag behind the control, which makes it very difficult to use the PTZ functionality. I actually find it easier to watch the NDI stream to control the PTZ than the video the browser where I’m using the PTZ buttons.
    2) The camera lists the ability to freeze the video while doing PTZ preset callbacks so the movement doesn’t show in the video. There is no remote option other than with the IR remote to freeze the video (which is useless for our use case), and the menu option that allows enabling video freeze on PTZ has no effect (even after rebooting the camera)
    3) The number of presets that you can save is great, however there is no list of presets that have been set, and you can only assign their number, but nothing like a name. The IP and HTTP based commands for the camera are really convenient, so it’s easy enough to setup your own system to get around this.
    4) Picture controls are somewhat (at least without the IR remote) lacking, from the web page you can only control Brightness, Saturation, Contrast, Sharpness, and Hue. None of those controls have the range of other PTZ cameras I’ve used. Also the White balance can’t be controlled via the web it appears to only be adjustable via the menu using the IR remote. I’m running the camera from a broadcast desk in the other room, and need to be able to change these without running into the chapel and adjusting with the remote (especially since that requires seeing the OSD). They really need to bring out ALL of the options to the web interface.

The PTZ features work great, the image quality looks really good (quite a bit better than the HikVision PTZ 1080p camera it replaced), the NDI works without any issues (I did have to increase the buffer size in vMix to prevent lagging), I’ve been impressed with the lack of video lag everywhere except in the web page control. This would easily be a 5-start camera and great value for the money if not for the issues outlined above. As it stands I’m left wondering if I deploy this model to 3 more buildings, or bite the bullet and pay twice as much for the PTZ Optics for that little extra polish on the controls.

Purchased two of these cameras after reading they were virtually the same as the PTZOptics variant. Sure enough, once we received them everything set up just like the PTZOptics units and they performed identically; for less than half the price!

    A couple notes/cautionary tips:
-Don’t use PTZOptics firmware, reach out to SMTAV for their firmware file. The NDI license will desync if you use PTZO firmware on the SMTAV cameras. HOWEVER, you can use the PTZO updater program v2.8 to backup/restore your camera config if you have a bunch of presets saved on the camera.

-After updating firmware, the language selection drop-down may be hidden off the bottom of the left menu; reduce your browser zoom to 70-80% and you will be able to see it and select your language again.

SMTAV support was awesome in helping us get the cameras updated and sorted us out on the upgrade process.

Work just like the 1.8K PTZ optics, no resolution wheel on the back but software adjust seems enough, all funciton seems working good, highly recomended if you need a stream camera and dont want to spend 1.8k for the PTZ expensive brand.
