A great product idea and I love the functionality, but when recording video, the audio noise of the closed plastic legs rubbing together as your grip changes is really annoying. We have decided to stop using this product due to all of our videos being so difficult to watch due to this audio noise. Everytime a change of grip or swapping hands, you can hear the plastic rustling together very loudly in the recordings. They should have added some rubber stoppers/buffers between the legs when closed.

So the principal of this is great, however when holding and using it the sounds of the parts moving in your hand transmit up to the gopro making audio horrible and triggering the gopro’s wind trigger all the time. You need to turn off the auto audio on the gopro, but then you get loud pops and grinding noise when holding it… which is the whole reason for this device. Now when you set it up on the tripod setup it’s fine of course because you’re not holding it. So, if you’re mainly going to hold it for vlogging skip this one and get something else without the tripod setup for better audio.

This product is too flimsy and cheaply made. I would imagine a good price for this would be about 10-15 bucks. I use it only with the gopro hero 7 with stock black cage installed. It topples over very easy the surface must be basically a table top or concrete. When I dj and its on my table top the bass knocks it over. Also they need to make the extending part of it with like a twist lock like the go poles because the cameras weight alone makes it slide down after i extend it which is ridiculous. Also when extended it looks like the camera doesn’t sit horizontal it looks like its angled to the right somewhat.

Ideally compact, plastic constructed handle but nice feel to it. As expected it doesn’t extend out much, but that’s expected due to its size.

It has about 5 inches of extension, and feels quite stable on the tripod when fully extended.

Only 3 stars as the screw mount is quite hard to tighten due to the plastic ‘E’ mount being quite tight, which also means it’s hard to swivel it back and forth.

Would be nice to have a wrist loop with it, I attached my own through the top mount before fixing to the camera.

Not what I expect for the price. All plastic build quality makes it just feel cheap.
Attachment screw to small and fiddly to use a real pain to take on and off when I want to swap the gopro onto other mounts.

What absolutely makes it bad for me is that the gopro picks up the handling noise of the tripod.
I use it predominantly like a retractable selfie stick, my hand gripping its folded legs.
The tripods legs are plastic and make a creaking noise when gripped hard. This noise gets picked up by the gopro absolutely spoiling the audio. It is lessened when extended but found I used this thing more retracted. Obviously no noise when used as a tripod.

This handling noise is what rates this thing badly for me. Cheap build quality I can live with but affecting the recording with noise is a nail in the coffin.

Pros of it. Well its lightweight due to its all plastic construction and very compact. If it didn’t have such bad handling noise I would give it 4 stars just taking one of for its build quality vs value for money.

I decided to buy this branded go pro extension instead of buying a generic brand. I am very happy with the purchase and did not want to risk anything cheap in the expensive camera. The tripod is great for setting up photos from a distance and also extends up and down for easy selfies/Scenic pictures.

The only thing I am a little bit disappointed in is after a few trips into the ocean the screws on the inside have started to show signs of rust – this may be my fault but all in all great value for the money.

This is a pretty great tripod. I bought it mainly because it was marketed as a handle and a tripod. It does exactly that. It’s a compact enough handle that it fits securely in a backpack water bottle pocket. It also extends taller than most of the other “mini tripods” on amazon. It loses a star for two reasons. The first is because while the build quality is pretty good, it’s made of plastic. Not really a problem except for the other reason. The second is that the tripod doesn’t swivel. The camera faces one direction. It’s easy enough to just pick up the tripod and turn it in the direction you want but the lack of range of motion makes me feel like one day in manipulating the camera I’m going to break it. That being said…it’s built well enough that I don’t see that happening for a long time.

This an Overpriced Flimsy Toy at best.
Its $39 for plastic that rattles with a slippery grip.
I test drove this with my Hero5 Black. First of all , its top heavy. Feels like the neck will snap off if accidentally flick it.
I had to attach a nylon strap around the handle so my hand doesn’t accidentally slip and crash my Hero5.
If you shake it like a baby rattle, it clicks like its about to come of the hinges.
I don’t know about this thing. At best its worth $9.95.
I’ll be returning this. Shame on you GoPro for putting your name on this thing.

There is only one reason why GoPro released this: amusement parks and other places where they banned selfie sticks. Like other reviewers said, it works fine as long as you know it’s limitation and why it was released. I bought one for my upcoming trip to a Disneyland resort where they are firm about selfie sticks, but this one is approved for usage. The plastic is light and I wonder about its durability. My biggest grip with it is that it is really tight when you mount it to the camera; hard to get the holes to line up to put the screw through.

    It’s a handy accessory… but feels more like $10 than $40!

It generally feels cheap. The handle seems as though it will buckle if you hold it too tight & the extension feels like it will shorten just by the weight of the camera.

Ok so I looked at many reviews on this before deciding to buy and have to say I think it was a mistake!
The whole concept is perfect for a small compact tripod and short selfie stick and this is what drew my attention.
Upon un boxing it felt like a typical gopro accessory. Plastic but not cheap plastic and it appeared to be alright until I had to mount my osmo action to it.
Now before some of you start saying “but it’s for a gopro” the osmo action uses a standard gopro mount and has been fine with all my other gopro accessories.
I’ve seen other reviews that say it’s very tight to mount your camera to it and have to agree.
To get the screw hole lined up you can see the “blades” splaying out. Not good.
The metal lock screw is a pain to use as it’s too small. Ok so you can tighten it using a coin but when you need to quickly adjust the angle you dont want to be faffing about.
The tightness of the mounting blades also makes it extremely difficult to move.
Next we move on to the fact it’s a selfie stick albeit a short one. No problems with the length but I did notice you get a bit of free twisting movement because of this. This is because it’s a free locking mechanism not like other twist lock selfie sticks.
I’m also sceptical on how long this will remain rigid enough to stay up over use over time.
    Lastly the tripod.
Nice and compact. Makes a smooth handle when locked into place and that’s it.
You need both hands to unlock/free the legs and because it is all plastic it slides on smooth surfaces. Why not have rubber feet? A simple fix and something you’d expect for the price.
    Summary:
I so badly wanted this to work but it just doesn’t and especially not at a premium price!
I paid £29 for it and it’s well overpriced.
It’s full of design faults and that’s a shame because it is the ideal accessory for travelling light.
So with that I’ve made my mind up and will be returning it.
I feel you’re paying a premium price purely for the name tag.
I’ve got a Feiyutech mini tripod for their gimbals that is slightly shorter than the shorty. It’s made from the same type of plastic and has rubber feet. It has a 1/4″ tripod screw which I’ve attached a gopro mount to. This is what I now use and it only cost £6.95. I’ve also ordered a similar non generic brand shorty style stick which is covered in silicone and has an aluminium pole. That cost 1/3rd the price of the gopro shorty and I’ll see how that compares!!
