Although this is a small camera, it has a big heart. I am still experimenting and learning what this camera can do. I have watched many videos online and all they say about the good things about this camera are turning out to be true.

The hardware for this camera is edefinitely worth the price, however the software policies are incompatible with the American way of life.
The software in this camera imposes a strict policy to require you to give up personal information to DJI, which is based in China. They can disable your use of this device at any time for any reason. You’re basically coming under the umbrella of policies devised by a Chinese company. Chinese culture and politics is totally incompatible with ours here in the US. The people in China do not enjoy the same level of freedom and privacy that we enjoy as Americans. They are in effect imposing their values upon the users of their products worldwide. I personally feel that this should be completely illegal under trade agreements.
I am hoping that these policies change and this becomes a thing of the past! At the very least, this would make excellent hardware for open-sourcing software.

First of all DJI is forcing you to install and use a 420mb app on your phone before you can use the product. You have to go through pages and pages of policies and they still use you info. The app doesn’t even let you open it unless you let it use your phone location. This is the type of product that you own but not really since they could lock you out of the device for whatever reason (it’s in the 50 page policy). You need a phone with usb-c connetion also, or apple connection to use the product. I don’t want any compromised apps based in China forced on me to use this camera. I bought the gimbal to use as standalone, otherwise I would’ve used the camera on my phone which has a lot more features.
Now to the real flaws of the gimbal camera, as it is lacking in many crucial areas.
-It has what is known as exposure stepping where the color and brightness of the image abruptly changes as you move the camera around, as in light and shadow areas, it is not smooth. This results in amateurish footage, especially at dusk, or trick lighting situations.
-The 4k footage and the digital zoom get grainy in any situation where you don’t have full bright sun out.
-Auto focus often hunts, once again amateurish footage.
-If you point the camera in the bright blue sky to film birds or etc, there are slim white halos in the image.
-Active tracking mode is below average and misses more than it hits.
-Slow motion footage is cropped.
-The gimbal often gets lost if you move it sideways and down and you have to reset it.
-You have to snap another bottom plastic piece to get a tripod mount, then the usb connection is blocked.
-No external mic input where the lower priced competition has it. They want you to spend more for the creator package.
-Battery life also trails some of the lower priced competition.
Overall, very disappointing, and lacking in key areas that are crucial to getting quality video footage.

Pros:
– Incredibly stable and fluid motion. No need to keep trying to guess when the camera is horizontal. No more being forced to carry a heavy tripod for miles to film steady, level outdoor scenery.
– Video image is superb even on lowest setting
– The app is very well designed to control the camera via Bluetooth / Wi-Fi
– Turns on very quickly
– Makes very good time lapse videos very easily while it pans, tilts and rolls to your settings (this is a lot of fun to play with).
Cons:
– Battery life a bit on the low side but can be compensated for with a power bank due to USB-C connection
– Can heat up on 4K and, in fact, is noticeably warm every time I use it no matter what the setting. However, this doesn’t seem to cause any ill-affects.
– Photos are good but not as good as smart phones with their computational photography.
– Need to be a little careful with the focus and make sure it doesn’t focus on something too close which can make your intended subject a bit fuzzy in the background.
Conclusion:
Marketed as a vlogging camera but I think this is underselling it. It is actually a perfect home video camera. You can chase the kids around the backyard and get smooth, horizontal videos without trying too hard. The unit is beautifully designed and compares well against much more expensive cameras. It is easy and fun to use. I would think the major competitors in this market are the latest smart phones, but the incredible stability and orientation awareness (i.e. it’s very easy to keep it steady and horizontal) offered by this little camera with its 3-axis gimbal makes it perfect for me.

Dji gives 5 tries of the camera before they block you out of a device that you pay for!!! Does not work with my android 10 phone or other older devices. Before buying make sure phone is one list of devices because activation is required.
This is a camera and should work out of the box!!!!! Tech support is mostly useless with generic help….Turn on and off device! We know!

If you check out the DJI Forums (I didn’t) you will see there is an Activation Failure bug that stops some people being able to Activate the Pocket 2. If you don’t activate it you simply cannot use the camera at all. DJI customer support were nice but admitted they knew about the bug but didn’t have an answer. This bug has been there since 2018. Pretty incredible that any company can continue to sell a product that is completely useless if you are one of the unlucky people who get the bug. DONT BUY IT TILL THE BUG IS FIXED. Only good news is I was able to return it and get a refund.

So this is a device made by a company that wants to data mine you. I preordered this and was pretty excited to get it because of everything iv read about the first one. I got the device today and set it up, it was not working correctly and I found out you pretty much have to connect it to your phone or you can only use this device 5 times. Yes, they give you a limit to the amount of times you can use a device you paid for. I bought the bundle for 500 dollars and im only allowed to use this device 5 times unless I connect it to my smart phone… okay that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
So once I downloaded the app which is poorly reviewed which you will see on the app store you will see great amount of people who are struggling with the horrible app you are FORCED to use in order to take the 5 time limit away. Well I downloaded the app and then it wanted all of my information EVERYTHING which I said no to and then it just wont let me use the app, it then asks for your location… okay why are you needing my GPS? I am using a video camera that stabilizes …. not liking this one bit.
Once I said no to those options it will say you can’t use the app, and just keep asking you to accept. Yep, and there is no way around this that I found. Went to the DJI store forums and people are complaining about this exact problem. I understand if this was a drone and you gotta track it but this is a CAMERA that I CARRY AROUND.
This company is one that just wants to raid your information and sell it for a quick buck. Seriously DJI you are horrible and you really should fix this problem. Until then this review will stick.
RISHANK PONNANNA –
I bought this camera for my YouTube channel Rishank Ponnanna. I have a Sony A6000 with a dji ronin sc setup which is quite heavy to carry around for vlogging and other needs. I won’t compare the quality between the two as that’s a Mirror less camera with a 30k lens attached to it but this tiny monster is amazing in its own way. Its super tiny and easy to carry. No one really notices it so vlogging is very easy. I’ve not yet transferred the footages to my computer as I got it today and shot my vlog today, but the video will go up on my channel soon, so you can watch it there. The wide angle helps take some great shots and the pro mode is fabulous as well. It struggles during low light but it didn’t bother me much because of how small and easy to carry and use it is.
One other review spoke about how they couldn’t activate the product with a galaxy note 10+, I have the same phone and I downloaded the mimo app from the dji website and the app detected the pocket 2 but I wasn’t getting the activation code on the camera itself. So I skipped it and once I was in the camera screen, again connected my phone and sent a activation request and the camera showed it on the screen and I accepted it and the product was activated successfully. After that everything was a breeze.
Supee simple to use, charges up quick but battery drains fast as well. You need an extented battery pack for long vlogs. I don’t have complains on the battery life as I can understand because of the form factor. Overall, I love this tiny monster and its worth every penny. I got it for 40.8k. Hope this helps.
